When I was young, my grandfather and my dad bought matching red ambassador 5000 reels. Very expensive at the time. Grandfather lost his a week later by laying it across the front of the old wooden boat with the hook dangling a foot off the water. A northern pike (when nothing was biting) said to the fish world “watch this” and got everything.
Dads lasted longer than him. It sits collecting dust, still bolted on the old metal rod (that 30 pound Canadian pike could not break) on his beloved shop wall.

I love that, Gary. My grandfather just gave me a big box of older reels and baits that I plan to start working through. I’m hoping to identify each item one by one so I can learn more about where everything was, and compare it to where we’re at now. I REALLY want to try using some of them but I’m not sure I can bring myself to it… we’ll see… have a great weekend!
